thoughts and observations on my first ever visit to the calgary stampede

last night ben and i attended the calgary stampede for the first time EVER. it was interesting to see what all the hype was about, from all the carnival excitement, foods of every deep fried variety, and even a free dog show! with almost 100,000 people in attendance, it was definitely "the greatest outdoor show in the world".

(yeehaw!!)

aside from the rodeo, carnival, and exhibition programs, i noticed the stampede brings about another interesting activity to the grounds. i'm sure this tradition has been going on for as long at the stampede itself, i just think it's probably transformed quite a bit as the years have gone by...

i introduce to you the art of:
"TRAMPEDING"

(gone are the days where wrangler butts drove us nuts...)

i would have taken my own photos last night, but ben wouldn't let me borrow his phone (even when i told him it was for some investigative journalism). i must have missed the memo that half of your butt-cheeks needed to be hanging out of your jean cut-off shorts at all times, but besides being unaware of the proper dress code, we had a great night!

i just now understand why there's a sudden baby boom in the population of calgary come 9 months after the trampede stampede...

coincidence?
i think not.

i wondered myself when stampede morphed into "dress like a hooker" week.

aptly put, as usual. glad you're back.

I love your post. I've never been to Stampede, but I'm starting to realize I'm not missing much. When did cowgirls become sex objects? This reminds me how nurses can be protrayed in the media, as the sexy nurse. I don't believe it was a women who created this image. Well I'm glad I didn't waste my money. Your sister Katie recommended your blog to me. :)

Yippee for rejoining the blogging world. I need to get back into too. I mean I love blogging about Logan but some days I have ideas for other blogs too like Blue Car Boy and his new girlfriend that has her cat on a leash and great stuff like that. It is so funny that mom and I made note of the very fleshy dressed women on our way to Calgary the same weekend as the stampede. In Portland people just dress like that for fun!
